I have to admit, I was skeptical before buying. But after continual problems with the windshield mount either (a) semi-permanently bonding to the windshield, or (b) in cold weather, never sticking to the windshield, I tried the friction mount. It seems impossible for this to work - it's only using the drag between the mount and dashboard, no sticky stuff at all - but it works like a charm. Even when I hit turns hard, it doesn't even rock. And it's easy as pie to take it off the dash and stow when you're worried about thieves - in contrast to the windshield mount, which just says "please break in." Get it, you won't be disappointed.
