Rating : - Some call it the "careful" follow-up to the epic, some call it the humongous failure, but I call it a "satisfying story"
Despite the fact that Return to Lonesome Dove is not the official sequel to the original, the story and forward thrust given off in the movie really make it a worthy followup. Yes, we dont have TLJ playing Call and no we don't have Anjelica Huston playing Clara, but still, Jon Voight and Barbara Hershey give off convincing performances with what they were given. Voight also brings a little more life to Call during the whole "flight of arrows" scene. I know, TLJ was born to play the part of Call, but Voight is a good actor, and he does well with what he has to work with. Hershey also brings some funny sassyness to Clara as well. The thing that I really enjoyed about the film was that it really felt like a continuation to the original. We see Rick Schroeder, Tim Scott, Chris Cooper, and others return as well as the same theme music and many of the same locations. Lou Gossett Jr also was a welcome addition to the cast, as well as Oliver Reed. I would also like to add that this movie had its moments of action-packed thrills with Voight dodging arrows and leaping off a cliff to a massive fire at Clara's ranch.

No, this film does not compare to the original Lonesome Dove, but to me, I would say the story would seem more believable than the Streets of Laredo story, which has the whole cattle ranch fall and Pea Eye marrying Lorena. I especially like how it took place right where the original left off, this made the story especially more believable to me. After I finished watching this film, I felt more satisfying with the story of Lonesome Dove than I did when I finished Streets of Laredo (even though the Laredo ending is the official ending to the saga)

Look, this film is worth a look. If you don't like it, then that's your opinion. I give it five stars because it left the same satisfying feeling in me as the first one did.
